Friday – Friday Cheers starts – Friday Cheers, the outdoor concert series on Brown’s Island, kicks off this Friday with performances from R&B rockers Lee Fields & The Expressions. The band Kings open. Fingers crossed the weather holds out for the concert. 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
Friday & Saturday – RVA East End Festival – The Richmond Symphony brings its free music festival back to Chimborazo Park for two days of music from a variety of performers and school groups to benefit music programs for Richmond Public Schools in the East End. Friday night’s kick-off ends with a performance from the Richmond Symphony and Virginia Rep. Saturday offers a full slate of performances from local schools and groups like Ezibu Muntu, One Voice and Lillie Jones. Friday 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday noon-8 p.m. 3200 East Broad St. Free.
Saturday – ¿Qué Pasa? Festival – Head to Richmond’s Canal Walk for the ¿Qué Pasa? Festival, celebrating Hispanic food, culture, music, arts and crafts and canal boats that will be transformed to resemble the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco, Mexico. Free entry. Noon-8:30 p.m.
Opens Saturday – “Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style” – The eagerly anticipated “Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style” exhibit opens at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts this weekend. Featuring 100 examples of haute couture and ready-to-wear garments from the legendary designer. Check back later this week for our preview and more photos. Runs through August 27.
Sunday – Pedal through Petals – A family-friendly bike ride through Richmond’s downtown gardens and Church Hill to raise money for VCU Massey Cancer Center. The route is about 6 miles and most riders will complete the ride in 2 to 3 hours. After-party includes beer and wine, food, live bands, “pick your prize” raffle event and a Family Fun Zone for an extra fee with face painting, a balloon artist, a bounce house, and arts and crafts. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Starts at The Valentine, 1015 E. Clay Street.
