Saturday, Oct. 7 – Magnificent Midlothian Food Festival – The popular Midlothian festival moves to Saturday this year and adds a performance from the Richmond Symphony under the Big Tent. The day-long festival will feature food from more than 20 restaurants such as Fat Dragon, Maple & Pine, Toast, local craft beer, Virginia wine and family activities. En’ Novation and Illbillys Band will perform, as well as the Richmond Symphony with the Taters. Noon-6 p.m. Westchester Commons, 201 Perimeter Drive, Midlothian. $25 includes 5 food/beverage tickets, children 12 and under free, all proceeds benefit local charities.
Saturday, Oct. 7 – Hogtober – Yes, Richmond, it’s Hogtober time. The BBQ-eating, beer-drinking, music-listening all day festival in Church Hill. Featuring finger-lickin’ good BBQ from Alamo BBQ, Buz and Ned’s, Jadean’s Smokin’ Six O and many more. Plus honey ginger and sweet-potato sage beer from Ardent Craft Ales, which was born in a Church Hill garage before moving to the craft brewery capital of Richmond, Scott’s Addition. And music from Colin & Caroline and Diamond Heist, a Neil Diamond cover band. Noon-7 p.m. Libby Hill Park. Free entry, pay as you go.
Saturday, Oct. 7 & Sunday, Oct. 8 – 2nd Street Festival – Over 40,000 people turn out to Jackson Ward every year for “Two Street,” a two-day celebration of the neighborhood with music, food and family activities. Music headliners this year include local R&B group Vision Band and DJ duo The Art of Noise, plus performances from Debo Dabney, VCU Black Awakening Choir, Lucy Kilpatrick, Ordinary People Band, SPARC and Sisterly Grace. Dig into food from Mama J’s, Africanne on Main, and Croaker’s Spot, just to name a few. Plus food vendors, a marketplace, a kids’ zone and lots more festivities. Noon-7 p.m. Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday, on Second Street, between Broad and Jackson streets.
Sunday, Oct. 8 – Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions – The Richmond Symphony takes on the Pokémon phenomenon with “Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions.” Featuring music from Pokémon video games performed by a full orchestra and accompanied by timed visuals. 7 p.m. Altria Theater, 6 N. Laurel St. $31.50-$69.50.
