Friday, Dec. 1 – Grand Illumination – Gather with hundreds of other Richmonders to count down to Richmond lighting up for the holidays. The countdown begins at 5:50 p.m. to the office buildings lighting up, along with the James Center’s great big tree and lots of illuminated reindeer. Stick around for two blocks of family entertainment with music from Good Shot Judy, a visit from Santa, the “Nutcracker” characters and lots more. This year, be sure to head down to the grand illumination of the train shed and a winter market with Shop the Shed. There will be live music, an aerial circus, Santa, art activities and horse-drawn carriage rides. 5:50 p.m.-7 p.m. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 2 – Dominion Energy Christmas Parade – Get stepping to the holidays with the Dominion Energy Christmas Parade! Holiday floats, helium balloons, marching bands and Richmond’s own Legendary Santa. Starts at 10 a.m. in front of the Science Museum of Virginia and continues on West Broad Street to Seventh Street.

Saturday, Dec. 2 – RVA Krampusnacht – Break out your horns and cow bells for a night of merriment and festivities with RVA Krampusnacht, a wild walk through Carytown with a costume contest, art-making and toy drive. Starts at Citizen Burger, 2907 W. Cary St. Participants gather at 5:30 p.m. to go over the rules, and the walk begins at 6 p.m. Or you can just show up in Carytown and watch the revelry.

Sunday, Dec. 3 – Bon Iver at The National – The indie folk band created by Justin Vernon is headed to Richmond. Bon Iver’s third album, “22, A Million” was released last year. 7:30 p.m. at The National, 708 E. Broad St. $38.
