Through Sunday – Marvel Universe – Calling all superhero fans: Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and more will be taking over the Richmond Coliseum to take on Doctor Strange and save the world. Expect plenty of special effects, pyrotechnics, martial arts and motorcycle stunts, according to organizers. Showtimes vary, but include 7 p.m. shows and weekend matinees. Tickets start at $20.
Saturday – Shockoe Bottom Blarney Bash – St. Patrick’s Day celebrations start early this weekend. The Blarney Bash is moving indoors this year to the Train Shed at Main Street Station. With music from The Gold Sauce and The Mash Up; Irish dancing by the Baffa Academy; Nutzy and Nutasha from The Flying Squirrels; Irish bagpipes; the Jameson Irish coffee tent; Guinness; a kids’ play area with a moon bounce and face-painting; and more. 1-7 p.m.
Saturday – Flaming Lips – The Lips are in town! The show at The National may be sold-out, but maybe you can find some extra tickets from a friend. The psychedelic pop-rockers are known for their inventive and elaborate live shows. 8 p.m. at 708 E. Broad St.
Saturday – St. Paddy’s Day at COTU – Stop by Center of the Universe to watch the El Balderinos shave their heads to help raise money for childhood cancer research with St. Baldrick’s. Plus an all-day St. Patrick’s Day-themed festival with music from VEXINE, The Royal We RVA, and Something Shiny Band, food trucks Grandpa Eddie’s Alabama Ribs & BBQ and Freekin’ Rican, a limited Irish beer release and plenty of COTU on tap. 1-10 p.m. Center of the Universe Brewing Co., 11293 Air Park Road, Ashland.
