Saturday – Ashland Strawberry Faire – Get your fresh strawberries, strawberry shortcake, strawberry ice cream and other strawberry-themed goodies at the Ashland Strawberry Faire. The annual event also dishes up plenty of festival fare, arts and crafts, pageants for little ones and pets, live music and lots more. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Randolph-Macon College, Ashland.
Saturday – Family Day at VMFA – Celebrate African and African American arts and culture, especially the art of Ethiopia, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Family Day. Featuring dance performances, an Ethiopian church choir, an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, hands-on art activities for kids and much more. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 N. Saturday – Jam Sandwich Festival – If you’re in the mood for a homegrown music festival, check out the Jam Sandwich Festival on Mayo Island. A variety of bands from Virginia and beyond include The Motet, Perpetual Groove, CBDB, Love Canon, Super Doppler, Kendall Street Company and Camp Howard. With beer from Strangeways Brewing, including its Smückers Jelly Berliner Weisse, a specialty cocktail from Tito’s Vodka and sandwiches from Potbelly Sandwich Shop.
