Friday – Santa’s Arrival at Short Pump – Yes, it’s really happening already! Santa arrives at Short Pump Town Center with a parade and lighting of the 60-foot walk-through tree to kick off the holiday shopping season. Santa photos also begin this weekend. 7:30 p.m. in the main plaza, 11800 W. Broad St.
Saturday – Anthem Richmond Marathon – Whether you’re cheering on a runner or just want to see the spectacle, the marathon turns the city into one big party zone. Stake out your favorite spot to watch the runners, hand out doughnut holes or just give them a high-five. Our favorite spectator spots include Forest Hill and Semmes avenues, Monument and Westmoreland or our own Richmond Times-Dispatch Building at 300 E. Franklin St. 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday – Hops in the Park – Over 40 beers from 20 Virginia breweries on the banks of the James River, plus seminars, brewing demonstrations, a farmers market, music, food trucks, children’s activities, and Virginia history. Each brewery will bring at least one beer with a Virginia-grown ingredient. Noon-6 p.m. at Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Road, Chester. Free entry; beer tickets available for purchase.
Sunday – Armistice Day Festival – Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with a Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Dogwood Dell Amphitheater in Byrd Park. The event begins with a solemn tolling of the bells, followed by words from Gov. Ralph Northam and Kirk Cox, speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates. After the brief remarks, visitors are encouraged to head over to the Carillon, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations, for an Armistice Day Festival. The newly renovated first floor will be open and filled with historical exhibits from museums and organizations. The family-friendly festival will have crafts, activities, games, music, re-enactments, and exhibits on what life was like in Virginia in 1918. Veteran’s Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. at Dogwood Dell.
