Friday – Downtown Grand Illumination – Richmond lights up for the holidays with the family-friendly celebration Downtown Grand Illumination. A countdown at 5:50 p.m. kicks off the lighting of the downtown office buildings, the James Center tree and the holiday reindeer. Stick around for music from Good Shot Judy, the Silly Bus and a visit from the Richmond Ballet cast of the Nutcracker. 5:30-7 p.m. at James Center, 1051 E. Cary St. Free.
Friday – 17th Street Market Grand Opening and Ice Skating – The new 17th Street Market opens with holiday-themed festivities from 5-9 p.m. There will be a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., followed by ice skating at the new RVA on Ice rink at the market, a fire show by Party Liberation Front, live music and 22 oak trees lighting up at 6 p.m. RVA on Ice costs $9-$15 and stays open until 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. 100 N. 17th St.
Saturday – Dominion Energy Christmas Parade – Snoopy, the classic Peanuts character, will lead this year’s Christmas Parade down Broad Street. Snoopy arrives courtesy of Kings Dominion’s new WinterFest holiday celebration. This is the 35th year for the Richmond Christmas Parade. Expect to see plenty of floats, giant balloons such as Frosty and Elmo, marching bands, majorettes and more holiday happiness on foot. Rain or shine. 10:15 a.m.-noon from the Science Museum of Virginia at 2500 W. Broad St. to Seventh Street. Free.
Saturday and Sunday – Handmade Holiday Market – The Richmond Craft Mafia is bringing 50 crafters, artists and makers to a big heated tent at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery for one-of-a-kind holiday shopping. They’ll have everything from handmade jewelry to scarves for your dog and oil for your beard. Hardywood will also be releasing Christmas Morning gingerbread stout and Caliente GBS. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, 2408 Ownby Lane. Free entry.
